Vanessa Couper

Vanessa Couper (nee Ropa) studied at the Sydney Conservatorium where she completed a Bachelor of Music (first class honours) in 2007 and a Masters of Music (Performance) in 2009 and most recently, a Master of Music Therapy at The University of Melbourne (2013).  Vanessa has toured extensively overseas as Principal Flautist and Principal Piccolo with numerous orchestras performing in China, Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy and The Netherlands, as well as nationally with chamber ensembles and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.  Vanessa has taught for over thirteen years in schools, at State Music Camps and within the Department of Education and Training (DET) Arts Unit.

Vanessa’s music therapy experience in Australia includes working with children in palliative care and respite, children and adolescents with autism and patients with dementia in a residential aged care facility.  In 2013, Vanessa spent one month in India working for the Brett Lee MEWSIC Foundation setting up a music therapy program to help support children with cancer and their families.
