Caring for your Flute

Regular care of your instrument is important at all levels and will help ensure your instrument will keep working as it is supposed to between regular services.  As well as keeping your flute working, regular care and cleaning will ensure you aren't at risk of breathing in any bacteria or other nasties that like to live in warm moist environments...
  • Please see the below for an interesting video about caring for your flute.
  • Click here to download a one page document by Jennifer Cluff (same person as in the video above) to help with caring for your flute.

Making a Sound

  • Below is a youtube video to help you make a sound on your flute.

Playing your first notes on the Flute
  • The Central Coast Conservatorium band program offers tuition in the form of group practice tutorials.  The process of learning the flute in a group tutorial is quite different to the traditional approach of learning which would occur in one to one lessons (please be aware that you are able to elect to enrol your child in one to one lessons either at the Conservatorium or through the band program). In band books such as the "Accent on Achievement" book, the first notes that are taught/learnt are D, E Flat and F. The below linked videos may be helpful for both parents and students when practicing these notes at home.

Where else to play your instrument

One of the best things about learning a musical instrument is being able to get together with others and play your instrument regardless of your age or ability!  On the Central Coast there are many fantastic opportunities to do just this!

Check out the options below to see what interests you and what works for your current life situation and remember that you can always get together with some musical friends and play your instruments together (ask your/their teachers to help you find music when you know which instruments are involved).

Primary Age Students

  • Join any Bands or Ensembles at your school (if there are none talk to your school music teacher about starting one!)
  • Join "Super Band" (Central Coast Primary Wind Ensemble)
  • For Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass students get involved in the Saturday Strings Program
