The Central Coast Conservatorium’s Artistic Director and CEO, Patrick Brennan, is thrilled to announce MUSIC WEEK, an innovative and exciting approach to delivering music education on the Coast.

Such an event has never been done before on the Coast and represents the collective musical intellect and talent of some 40 Conservatorium of Music teaching staff on a diverse range of projects, allowing people young and old, musical or not, to experience a rich and dynamic performing and learning opportunity.

Offering 119 events across seven days, this music program is open to the general public and will start on Saturday 29 June. Events, concerts and workshops will take place at the Conservatorium of Music in Mann Street in Gosford and at other affiliated venues across the Coast.

‘Students need practical skills and theoretical knowledge to form a solid foundation for a well-rounded music education’, Mr Brennan said.

‘There is a lot more to learning an instrument or voice than just turning up to weekly one-on-one lessons and doing a bit of practice at home…. listening skills, music theory, composition and song writing are integral to being a musician. These aspects can be complex and require a focused approach away from the 1 to 1 studio environment. Music Week offers classes and workshops which will enable learning musicians to incorporate such skills into their creative process.’

MUSIC WEEK is a chance to explore different techniques involved in playing instruments as well as learning how to grasp abstract concepts and gain inspiration to collaborate with other students by engaging through ensembles.

Join our Musical Jungle classes for children or attend an insightful talk on Help! My Child Won’t Practice, a presentation on What’s the Big Deal About Bach! or a demonstration on What is the Cor Anglais?

A vast number of workshops are on offer including sight reading and ear training, learning the fundamentals of Jazz, transcribing Jazz notation, a Rock School, conducting workshop for secondary students and an Introduction to Breathing Co-ordination/ Managing Performance anxiety workshop for instrumentalists and vocalists.

Gain valuable hands-on experience by taking part in an open chamber music ensemble rehearsal, learn how to work well with a piano accompanist, or join an open rehearsal with the Central Coast Philharmonia Choir.

Scheduled across the week are Showcase Concerts including the Strings and Voice departments and a unique Showcase Piano Concert featuring a handcrafted Kawai Shigeru Concert Grand Piano.

The program culminates on Friday 5 July with the Conservatorium’s top music students performing in the Premier Ensembles Concert with special guests, the Central Coast Philharmonia Choir and the Central Coast Concert Band.

MUSIC WEEK also offers free entry to the Conservatorium’s Children’s Music Program “Musical Jungle” sessions designed specifically for families with young children to explore music education.

MUSIC WEEK is for everyone but you will need a Pass to participate. Click HERE to view MUSIC WEEK full program and to find out how to obtain a Pass.
