Allen Family supports the production of Central Coast Opera - La Bohème

Ray Allen and his family have long been supporters of the Central Coast Conservatorium. “I first approached the Central Coast Conservatorium after seeing the Central Coast Chamber Orchestra perform at Opera in the Arboretum. Although I live in Sydney, I am a sometimes resident of Pearl Beach”, said Mr Allen.

An opera aficionado, attending one of the stunning San Francisco Opera ‘Ring’ cycles recently was an emotional, imaginative and stimulating experience for Ray. “My role as donor to the arts is about getting kids involved in Opera. My involvement with the Conservatorium goes back at least five years with the opera side of things. The Allen Family’s desire is to give kids and youths an introduction to an art form that includes singing, orchestra, dance, acting, costume, set designing and building – all taken up in one big performance called Opera” he said.

Ray believes that opera is a fabulous vehicle. “Students studying singing at the Conservatorium or from the community have the opportunity to perform on a truly grand scale. Young and aspiring opera singers from the Coast and beyond are offered an incredibly rare high calibre performance opportunity. Opera generates wonderful orchestral and choral experiences and offers development for kids involved in orchestral and choral based programs”.

“What was most apparent to me in the performances of Central Coast Opera’s The Magic Flute (2016) and Carmen (2017) was the impact it had at a community level. Such sell-out performances at the Laycock Street Community Theatre bring communities together and community involvement is a very large part of what I am doing and why I am invested in this project. My primary objective is to increase the knowledge and accessibility of the opera genre to kids on the Coast. An added bonus and by-product is the exposure of this wonderful genre to the wider community” says Ray.

Giving young people quality performance experiences and the opportunity to work and learn from consummate professionals from Central Coast Opera and the Conservatorium, who understand and perform opera, is imperative to the ongoing success of opera on the Coast.

The Allen Family and the Conservatorium share the same ideals in introducing our youth to opera.

“Getting the message across that opera is an integral part of the Conservatorium, with Central Coast Opera now a core element in its annual calendar, is what we’ve strived to achieve over the past three years” says Ray. “This is a very important aspect of the Conservatorium’s role in the community and it’s only going to get bigger.”

The Conservatorium’s sponsors play a vital role in the delivery of programs and enable many students to achieve their very best at the Conservatorium through their generous support. Central Coast Opera is seeking further sponsorship and offering advertising opportunities as this is an art form that has much to offer. The Central Coast Conservatorium and Central Coast Opera wish to thank the Allen Family for their ongoing support.
