Opera appoints Warwick Doddrell to direct new production15-Feb-2018 Central Coast Opera is excited to announce that Australian legendary theatre director Warwick Doddrell will join the team for the 2018 production of La Boheme by Puccini.
After completing a BA in Film Production in 2009 at Curtin University, I pursued a career in theatre directing, creating physical ensemble work with Redfoot Youth Theatre. I have trained in London with the New End Theatre, and staged works in Perth, Melbourne, London and Sydney. I was represented by original productions at the 2015 and 2016 Fringe World Festivals. In 2015, my original devised production Under This Sun won the Members Choice and Marketing Awards from its original sold out run at The Blue Room Theatre. Before studying at NIDA, I developed a new site specific adaptation of Hunchback of Notre Dame and in 2016, I began development on an adaptation of Ernest Hemmingway's The Old Man and The Sea and Ethel Pedley's Australian Classic, Dot and the Kangaroo. I interned with Opera Australia on their 2017 remount of Opera on the Harbour: Carmen and directed a new production of Rent with Nate Butler's Studio on the Central Coast. In 2017 I also completed a Directing Secondment with Michael Cassel Group on Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. This year I am also directing Stupid *** Bird by Aaron Posner at the New Theatre and Lie With Me by Liz Hobart at the Old 505 as well as La Boheme for Central Coast Opera.
I am excited by the opportunity to direct this production of La Boheme and the ethos that Central Coast Opera presents.
We seek to inspire our Central Coast community to engage in and value music as an integral part of life through comprehensive music education and artistic endeavour.
