Musicianship

Our musicianship classes help students develop all aspects of musical understanding and application, with musicianship students often accelerating practical progress on their instrument.

Group classes are held on a weekly basis and have been developed by Dr Phillip Rutherford, who has a PhD in Music (Composition) from the Sydney Conservatorium.

Classes are groups based on experience levels and cover the following topics:

  • Reading music accurately.
  • The structure of music
  • Aural abilities i.e., ‘ear training’.
  • Sight reading skills.
  • Sight singing skills.
  • Music history
  • Music appreciation of all styles of music, from classical to popular

As lifelong learners, musicians continue to study and practice even after they have built solid skills, to deepen their understanding and keep their skills as sharp as possible.
