Johnny Ryan is a dedicated professional with over a decade of teaching and performance experience. He has toured extensively through Australia (including Splendor in the Grass), and internationally at the 100 Club, Camden Palace and The Marquee Club, to name a few (UK venues) and is currently playing theatre shows around the nation.
Johnny's playing has featured on many radio broadcasts such as BBC1 with Zane Lowe, BBC6, XFM UK and major television shows around the world including live on Channel V and Triple J Radio, Fox8 series 'Slide' and Rove Live along with ads for Just Jeans in Europe, Xbox and Playstation games, movie soundtracks, and the FA soccer league in the UK. He has shared the stage with Wolfmother, Bloc Party and Jet to name a few and has been featured in magazines such as NME, Kerrang, Drumscene and Rolling Stone as well as having been nominated in the ARIA awards.
Throughout his career Johnny has had the privilege of working with some of the greatest engineers, artists and producers in the world, gaining respect and high praise for his skills as a musician along the way. Johnny has worked with David Lamb (The Hives, Blur), Grammy nominee Erik Aldrey, Australia's own 'Magoo' (Midnight Oil, Regurgitator) and international über producer Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Placebo, Adele) who described his playing as ''stellar!''. Throughout his career Johnny has received personal compliments for his playing from the likes of Ian McNabb (Neil Young), Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Bob Dylan and Michael Jackson.
Johnny is an enthusiastic teacher, versatile in a range of different styles and is eager to pass on his tricks of the trade and knowledge to anyone at any level. He is the owner of Sydney Drums and teaches many students. He began playing the guitar and drums as a student at Homebush Boys High School in Sydney and continued his study with the legendary Australian drummer Col Gillies and music performance abroad in London with many high profile musicians and lecturers.
