Marina Hopcroft

Violin Teacher

Marina Hopcroft is a postgraduate trained violinist and teacher (BMus (Hons), GDipEd). Gaining her education from around Australia - Charles Darwin University, University of Melbourne and University of Newcastle, Marina has played in a variety of orchestras, chamber groups and contemporary collaborations over the last 20 years.

As an undergraduate, Marina played in the Darwin Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and was also a member of a string quartet chosen as part of a cultural delegation to play for the Sultan of Brunei. Marina graduated as DSO player of the year before moving to Melbourne to complete a Graduate Diploma in Education.

Marina completed further postgraduate study in Newcastle, playing as a founding member of Christchurch Camerata, Newcastle Festival Opera, Lake Macquarie Orchestra and the Metropolitan Players at the Civic Theatre with shows such as ‘Phantom of the Opera’, ‘The Mikado’ and ‘Annie - The Musical’. Marina also featured as solo violin in shows, ‘The Last Five Years’ and ‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change’.

Marina has taught non-tertiary students at the University of Newcastle, Newcastle Grammar School and the Junction Primary before teaching at the Central Coast Conservatorium.

In her down time Marina enjoys hikes, swimming and has a fascination for high performance in any field.
