Musicianship Teacher, CMP Teacher
Melissa started teaching Children’s Music and Keyboard at Central Coast Conservatorium in 1999. She has always loved teaching children and started her Early Childhood Music training studying Kodaly at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, later obtaining her accreditation with the NSW Chapter of KMEIA (Kodaly Music Education Institute of Australia). Melissa also studied ‘Eurythmics’- Dalcroze extensively and received her accreditation at Sydney Conservatorium of Music under Ruth Caldwell, Jeffrey Whilley and Karen Lemon. During this period, she also studied 'Music & Students with Special Needs' with Ruth Caldwell.
Melissa has taught Children’s Music, Pianoforte and Voice in many Schools around Sydney and on the Central Coast since 1999, including ‘do re mi’ Music for Children. She has also taught Children and Young Adults using Music for Special Needs at the Hall for Children, Hazelbrook, Werrington Park and Seton Villa Lodge, Eastwood. Melissa also worked with the elderly using Music as Therapy at Governor Phillip Special Hospital in Penrith.
Melissa studied Composition with the late Clifford Abbott, Annie Nichols and more recently Dr. Phillip Rutherford. She regularly composes songs and works for various projects and wrote extensively for the children’s entertainment group ‘The B-Bops’, in which she was a performer, partner and composer between 1998- 2015. Melissa is part of the Music Worship Team at Terrigal Uniting Church.
Melissa’s qualifications include:
Licentiate Diploma in Composition (LTCL) and Associate Diploma in Teaching Pianoforte (ATCL) both from Trinity College London
Licentiate and Associate Diploma in Modern Pianoforte from the Australian Guild of Music (LAGM) (AAGM)
Cert. in Early Childhood Music Education, Kodaly Australia (AKC)
Cert. Dalcroze, Sydney Conservatorium of Music
