Scholarship Expectations
Scholarship Criteria
1. Scholarships will be applied to the students Fees Account as follows:
- Recipients are considered the scholarship holders for the duration of the calendar year following the initial audition year.
- The Allen Family Scholarships will be paid by bank transfer OR applied to tuition fees depending on award recipient’s preference after the fin have been concluded. It is expected that any prize money disbursed via bank transfer will also be put towards the award recipient’s music education.
- All other scholarships will be applied against the student’s Conservatorium tuition fees in the term following the award determination.
2. Scholarship applicants must:
- Be enrolled in a Conservatorium program at the time of submitting their application; and
- Commit to attending a minimum half hour weekly individual lesson for the duration of the calendar year in which the scholarship is held (excepting the Allen Family Senior scholarships where the recipient may have graduated and moved on to external tertiary or international study); and
- Junior Applicants should be aged 13 or under (as at 31 December in the audition year).
- Senior Applicants should be aged 14 to 22 (as at 31 December in the audition year).
3. Professional musicians and/or staff of the Conservatorium are not eligible.
4. Applicants must be current Conservatorium students. This includes students participating in the ensembles and musicianship classes.
5. Scholarships will not be awarded if the adjudicator or adjudication panel deems that there are no candidates of a sufficient standard.
6. Students with outstanding or overdue fees are ineligible to apply for the scholarship program.
7. Scholarships will not be awarded to students with outstanding fees.
8. The Conservatorium reserves the right to withdraw a scholarship at any time should a student fail to demonstrate commitment or if any of the scholarship conditions are not met.
9. Scholarship 1st place winners from the previous year are ineligible to apply for the same scholarship.
10. The Conservatorium will notify you of your accompanist for the audition day. The Conservatorium will cover the cost of the accompanist for the live competitive audition. However, the student must pay the accompanist’s costs for rehearsals and video audition.
11. The decision of the adjudicator(s) will be final, and no dialogue or correspondence will be entered into.
12. Requirements for scholarship auditions are listed above, are obtainable from instrumental teachers, and will also be displayed on the Conservatorium website.
13. Finalists for the Allen Family Scholarship will perform at the Allen Family Scholarship Finals and Supporters Concert at Robert Knox Hall, 45 Mann Street, Gosford. The winners will be announced at the adjudication prior to the conclusion of the event.
All scholarship recipients are required to submit a letter of appreciation within 2 weeks after the Scholarship Finals, thanking the sponsor and explaining how they will use the money to support their musical education. You may send this directly to Administration on [email protected] or drop in a hard copy to the Administration office and it will be sent to the donor.
Selection Process
Online audition submissions will be reviewed by an external adjudicator to select finalists who will progress to the live auditions.
The live auditions will be adjudicated by external adjudicator/s. Following the live auditions, successful applicants will be advised on the following Monday.
