Adult Ensembles

Senior Flute Ensemble

Central Coast Conservatorium of Music Senior Flute Ensemble is for Central Coast-based flute players aged 21 and under looking to connect with other flute players.

Directed by Central Coast Con flute teacher, Derek Galloway, the Senior Ensemble will be held at the Conservatorium on 45 Mann Street, Gosford on Mondays, 6.30pm-7.15pm.

This is a great opportunity to build ensemble skills, meet more flute players (always a great idea!), work on new repertoire and have fun with your flute in a supportive environment.

If you are keen to develop your ensemble skills and stretch yourself with new repertoire, we would love to see you.

Recorder Ensemble

Central Coast Conservatorium Recorder Ensemble run by one of Australia’s leading recorder players, Joanne Arnott.

Early music specialist and Central Coast Con teacher Joanne will be taking the fortnightly Recorder Ensemble on alternate Tuesday evenings, 5.30pm-6.30pm in Robert Knox Hall.

The group will be playing mostly period music from the medieval, renaissance and baroque periods with some technical work and improvisation.

The group is open to anyone aged 16 and over with at least a year’s recorder playing experience (descant, treble, tenor or bass). Participants must have their own recorder.

Rehearsals: Tuesdays 5.30pm-6.30pm (fortnightly)

Steve Smillie Guitar Ensemble

This Guitar Ensemble comprises guitarists on acoustic, electric and bass guitars who enjoy exploring music from a range of genres. The ensemble provides students with the opportunity to further develop sight-reading, improvisation, ensemble and rhythm section skills. Reading needs to be at least Grade 2 or 3 up to fret 12, although sight reading skills will be developed in rehearsals.

Rehearsals: Thursdays 7.00pm to 8.00pm

Intro to Improv

Intro to Improv

The Intro to Improv group class is held on Thursday nights at Central Coast Conservatorium in Mann Street, Gosford, from 6.15pm-7.15pm with resident jazz master Ash Turner.

Aimed at high school musicians, the Intro to Improv sessions will offer students an introduction to harmony, rhythm and improvisation over all types of tunes including blues, rock, pop and jazz.

For students who have already developed the skills of reading music and basic theory and are most likely playing in existing ensembles, this group provides an introduction to the skills needed to express their creativity through the language of music.

Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble is a great opportunity for students on a variety of instruments to learn how to play jazz and contemporary music in a band.

Students learn how to improvise, build their performance skills, acquire a thorough understanding of jazz harmony and theory, and perform jazz and contemporary repertoire.

Entry is by audition, with students given the opportunity to perform for the Conservatorium at concerts and public performances throughout the year.
