Professional performing arts pathways for Years 9–12 public school students.

A workshop opportunity for brass and percussion students, run by the Sydney Youth Band in partnership with the Melbourne Staff Band, one of the premier brass bands of The Salvation Army Australia.

JULY 2026

Designed for young string players at AMEB Level 3–5 | Open to violin, viola, cello and double bass students, this workshop offers the chance to play alongside SSO Fellows and improve ensemble skills in a supportive and energetic setting.

For young string players at AMEB Level 3–5 | connects students with the talented musicians of the Sydney Symphony and the 2026 Sydney Symphony Fellows in a series of rehearsals, sectionals and masterclasses designed for intermediate and advanced students.

An immersive and engaging holiday program where 13- to 17-year-olds who love music can learn song structure, lyric writing, chord progressions, melody creation and basic production. Working together in small teams and guided by professional singer-songwriter and music producer Sophie Hanlon, participants will create and record an original song in just 2 days! Very limited places avaialble.

The student orchestra and stage band are the two main instrumental forces that provide the accompaniment to the music in the Schools Spectacular. The student orchestra is comprised of approximately 65 auditioned Years 7 to 12 students from NSW Public Schools on string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. The stage band is made up of approximately 18 auditioned Years 7 to 12 students from NSW Public Schools who play saxophones, trombones, trumpets, piano, bass, electric guitar, and drum set. Students are auditioned individually.

Primary-aged vocalists! Save the date for our Advanced Choral Workshop.

Students in the student production team work with the Schools Spectacular production team and industry professionals to assist with the bump in, bump out, management and coordination of all of the elements of the show. This category is open to students in Years 10 to 12 in NSW Public Schools.
