Georg Pedersons 80th Birthday Concert (Charmian and Friends)

Join our patron Charmian Gadd OAM and a distinguished group of friends, colleagues and emerging artists for a special afternoon of music celebrating the 80th birthday of renowned cellist and educator Georg Pedersen.

This celebratory concert showcases the expressive range and enduring beauty of the cello through a rich program spanning the Romantic era and beyond. Featuring outstanding young cellists, accomplished musicians and a specially assembled string ensemble, the afternoons highlights will include Elgar’s dramatic Cello Concerto, Fauré’s deeply lyrical Élégie, the brilliance of Popper’s Polonaise de Concert, and a special performance by Georg Pedersen and pianist Phillip Shovk. The concert concludes with the majestic opening movement of Schubert’s much-loved String Quintet in C major, performed by a string ensemble formed especially for the occasion, with guest cellist Julian Smiles.
