Students and teachers from Central Coast Conservatorium are the focus of a new documentary by Central Coast independent filmmaker Kaye Harrison.
The half-hour film, Music Central, explores the power of music to boost wellbeing and follows CCCM Artistic Director Patrick Brennan, violin student Kaito Deed, associate artist and pianist Noah Peres and the Central Coast Children’s/Youth Choir. Filmed over the course of a year, the documentary also features students at Woy Woy Public School and Ruby Archer – a young singer songwriter from the Central Coast.
Kaye says Music Central was inspired by her love of music and how it boosts the wellbeing of individuals and communities living on the NSW Central Coast.
The documentary is being premiered at the Central Coast’s inaugural Coastal Surge Film Festival at Avoca Beach Picture Theatre on 29 June. The evening will kick off at 5pm and there will be live music from the film’s featured musicians include Kaito, Noah and the choir.
Two other films being screened on the night will be Toni Houston and Sarah Beard’s doco Bouddi Wild Swim and the comedic-horror short Mother Tongue. There will be also be a Q&A with the filmmakers.
About Kaye Harrison
Kaye Harrison is an independent documentary filmmaker and was Director/Director of Photography of award-winning documentaries Crossing the Line (2005 ABC), The Long Goodbye (2010 ABC) and the Troublesome Priest (ABC 2017). Her acclaimed feature documentary The Sunnyboy (2013 ABC) premiered at the Vivid/Sydney Film Festival as a finalist in the Documentary Australia Foundation competition for Best Australian Documentary. Kaye’s documentary feature, Sanctuary, an intimate portrait of a young Iraqi man who traverses the world in search of asylum had its world premiere at the 2019 Sydney Film Festival where it also screened as a finalist in the Documentary Australia Foundation competition for Best Australian Documentary where it received a Highly Commended.
