The Central Coast Conservatorium Children’s Choir is taking to the stage with some of Australia’s finest opera singers at The Art House Wyong on Saturday 27 August.

The renowned Opera Australia is performing on the Central Coast with one of the most accessible and light-hearted operas, Rossini’s’ The Barber of Seville

A total of 24 young singers from the choir, aged nine to 14,  will join some of the finest operatic voices in the country on stage for two performances – a matinee and evening show – of this entertaining tale of matchmaking and romantic escapades.

Full of infamous tunes you’ll recognise from commercials, cartoons and pop-culture, plus a classic storyline of comedic romance, the town barber Figaro uses his sharp wit, scheming, and clever disguises to wrangle a romantic encounter for two would-be lovers.

The choir – which is sponsored by Central Coast Philharmonia Choir – has been in weekly rehearsals for the production for several months with former Opera Australia soprano Anne Haslam, Central Coast Conservatorium Artistic Director Patrick Brennan and Children’s Music Program coordinator Nicky Castle.

“The choir came together in May learning a variety of genres. They have enjoyed the challenge of learning how to sing the opera pieces in Italian and very much looking forward to seeing the fun story play out on stage” said Nicky.

“Anne has been teaching the children vocal technique & refining the language, Patrick has been teaching the singers how to ‘be a choir’ and work with a conductor.” The choir members have also been learning the art of stagecraft, rehearsal etiquette and how to work together as a unified team.”
