Central Coast Conservatorium flautist Kayla Lush, a Year 12 music, was one of four students who treated family, friends and teachers to a recital at Greenway Chapel in Green Point recently as part of the Con’s HSC Student Practice Recital Day.

Kayla, a student at ET Australia studying Music 2 and Music Extension and member of the Central Coast Youth Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Orchestra, played six pieces of music she has chosen to play for her HSC.

She performed a solo – Arabesque by Ross Edwards – then was accompanied by associate artists Noah Peres on piano for four pieces before finishing with Veloce by Claude Bolling with Noah on piano, Fiona Lugg on double bass and Toby Hall on drums.

ET Australia staff and teachers who attended the concert were impressed by Kayla’s talent. “Kayla performed exceptionally well, demonstrating her musical talent through various musical styles and technical skills,” they said.

Gosford High School Year 12 students Jaden Bridgland and Jackson Hood, both trumpeters, also performed at the recital along with clarinet player Amber Davies. Jayden was accompanied by fellow Gosford High School Year 10 student, and Central Coast Youth Orchestra violinist Kaito Deed on violin.

“The HSC Student Practice Recital Day is a great opportunity for our students to prepare for their HSC trial and performance exams, performing their program with accompanist,” said Central Coast Conservatorium Events Coordinator, Nicky Castle.

For some of the students what they most needed was to perform for family, friends and teachers, for others it was an opportunity to have a solid block of time in a beautiful performance space with the accompanist and do a few practices of their pieces to polish and perfect how they wanted to interact with the accompanist, for others it was recording their pieces for early applications to university.”
