Congratulations to Central Coast Conservatorium of Music flute students who gained outstanding results at the NSW Flute Society Eisteddfod.
Year 9 Central Coast Grammar School student Elana Sydenham and Year 7 Henry Kendall High School student Sophie Arendse both took part in the inaugural Flute Society of NSW Open Competition on 10 September at the Lane Cove Community Hub.
Elana, a student of Rosalie Bourne, gained 1st place in the Junior Championship and Highly Commended in Grade ⅞ Unaccompanied. She has been playing the flute for seven years.
“It has been a busy year for Elana,” said her mum, Janelle Sydenham. “She performed in YIPA again this year, the Pearl Beach Association Scholarship Concert in May and also came third in the Sydney Eisteddfod in the under-15s in July.”
Sophie, a student of Derek Galloway, was awarded 1st place, Grade ¾ Accompanied and 3rd place Grade 3/4/ Unaccompanied.
Central Coast Conservatorium of Music Artistic Director, Patrick Brennan, congratulated both students.
“Sophie is an engaged student who has immersed herself in many of the Conservatorium’s programs, she is a critical member of the Symphonic Wind Orchestra and I’m delighted that her hard work and dedication to flute playing has been recognised at such a high level,” he said.
“Elana is certainly one of our stars in the making. She plays with energy and enthusiasm and is passionate about her flute playing as a soloist and in the orchestral context. It’s certainly a privilege to work with talented students such as Elana on a weekly basis in the CCYO and to see them flourishing in a broader contact like the NSW Flute Eisteddfod.
