More than 150 Central Coast Conservatorium vocal and instrumental students of all ages took to the stage in Gosford over four end-of-term student concerts in front of family, friends, teachers and supporters for a wonderful weekend of music-making.
There was a festive air at CCCM’s final Premier Ensembles Concert at Gosford Anglican Church, with the Central Coast Youth Orchestra, Primary Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Wind Orchestra and Children’s/Youth Choir all coming together for an uplifting concert.
A highlight of the evening was the combined orchestra and wind bands performance of The Highlights from Brave. The choir – decked in colourful fairy lights- performed several contemporary and traditional Christmas songs and Artistic Director Patrick Brennan finished the special concert inviting the audience to take part in a singalong of We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
The following morning, the Term 4 Young Performers Concert on 9 December featured 15 students who impressed the audience with their individual recitals on piano, clarinet and vocals. In the afternoon Saturday Strings students performed a selection of ensemble pieces learned throughout the term.
On Monday 11 December more than 30 school-age and adult singers performed in the Vocal Department Contemporary Concert. Accompanied by guitarist Simon Rudston-Brown, the students performed songs by Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson and Annie Lennox to Billie Holliday and Frank Sinatra.
“It is fantastic to see so many students getting on stage and performing for their family and friends. For many this is their first time performing in front of an audience and for the concert practice students, with an accompanist, and is a vital part of their music education. Not only do they get to show their family and friends what they have learned, they also learn about stagecraft and presentation. It is also wonderful to hear how talented many of these students are and to showcase the breadth of music offerings we teach here at the Con,” said CCCM CEO, Dr Lisa Barnes.
The student concerts are held every term and all one-to-one students are invited to register to perform.
