Six talented students from Central Coast Conservatorium have been selected to represent Regional Youth Orchestra NSW in a project with leading musicians from around the world.

Bassonist Xavier Cardozo, flautists Emma Deed and Kayla Lush, and violinists Claire Berecry-Brown, Kaito Deed and Minjy Lee have been invited to take part in the RYO’s orchestra camp in Sydney from 29 August to 4 September.

As part of the project the RYO participants will be partnering with musicians from the Australian World Orchestra and Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

The project includes a public concert performance by the RYO at Sydney Opera House on Saturday 3 September where they will be playing Dvorak’s Symphony No 9.

Activities during the week will also include tutorials with AWO and SSO musicians and lectures and masterclasses with leading industry professionals. The students will also get to observe AWO and SSO rehearsals and will attend the AWO concert at Sydney Opera House on 2 September

The AWO will perform three of Richard Strauss’s most famous tone poems, conducted by one of the world’s greatest Strauss interpreters, Maestro Zubin Mehta.

Regional Youth Orchestra NSW (RYO) is an audition-based youth orchestra for talented students from NSW Regional Conservatoriums, providing opportunities to play with other regional youth musicians and learn from leading conductors, orchestras and artists from Australia and the world in a range of projects each year.
