Central Coast Jazz League is offering 10 scholarships to students taking part in the Central Coast Conservatorium of Music’s Intro to Improv program.
The Intro to Improv group class is held on Thursday nights at Central Coast Conservatorium in Mann Street, Gosford, from 6.15pm-7.15pm with resident jazz master Ash Turner.
The Jazz League will sponsor up to 10 students for one term at $90 per student per term. The full term fee is $180 per term.
“Aimed at high school musicians, the Intro to Improv sessions will offer students an introduction to harmony, rhythm and improvisation over all types of tunes including blues, rock, pop and jazz,” said Ash.
The ensemble is aimed primarily at young high school musicians who are interested in learning to improvise. For students who have already developed the skills of reading music and basic theory and are most likely playing in existing ensembles, this group provides an introduction to the skills needed to express their creativity through the language of music. There is a focus on fun and learning simple tools for developing musical creativity.
“This partnership with Central Coast Jazz League is a huge boost and will provide students with an affordable extension opportunity in which they can explore genres, hone their musicianship and performance skills and have fun at the same time with like-minded musicians,” said Central Coast Conservatorium of Music CEO, Dr Lisa Barnes.
“I would like to thank the Jazz League for supporting our students. We value these community partnerships which are vital to the continuing success of regional conservatoriums.”
