Central Coast schools come together for Band Fest

There was a whole lot of noise when more than 300 primary school students from 18 schools across the region came together in Narara for Central Coast Band Festival 2022.

The annual Central Coast Conservatorium of Music event saw 20 school bands take to the stage at Narara Valley High School to perform a range of pieces from different genres.

A total of 18 schools from across the Coast, including 17 schools which are part of the Central Coast Conservatorium’s School Band Program, took part in the event where Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates were awarded to participating bands.

The young musicians were from Year 2 to Year 6, and there was a mix of training bands and concert bands taking part in the event.

“The day was a celebration of the students’ achievements for the year and an opportunity for them to perform in front of family and friends and in front of a larger audience than what they would normally get to perform in front of,” said Central Coast Conservatorium School Program coordinator Vicki Harris.

The training bands performed songs including Old MacDonald and Twinkle Twinkle to Surprise Symphony and blues numbers. Popular pieces for our concert bands included Happy, with other toe-tapping tunes including the theme from Jurassic Park, Hey Jude, Skyfall, Can’t Stop the Feeling and Counting Stars.

A highlight of the event was the performance from the Central Coast Conservatorium’s Primary Wind Ensemble .

Gosford Public School’s Training Band and Concert Band both performed at the Band Fest. “Both bands did an incredible job and performed so well! They were both recognised for their wonderful achievements and received Silver Awards. A huge thank you to all of our band parents for attending and supporting our incredible students,” said the school on Facebook.

Point Clare Public School also won a Gold and Silver Award. “Last weekend, our fabulous school bands played in Band Fest and received a silver and a gold award. Congratulations to all of our band members, as well as their band teachers, Phil and Kevin. What an incredible result!”
