Adult Strings Ensembles

Our Adult Strings Ensemble is an opportunity for string players over the age of 18years to work together and develop their ensemble skills in an informal yet professional setting.

String players (over 18) of 2 years’ experience or AMEB Grade 2-5 are invited to join.

Heather Hinrichs leads the ensemble.  Having been trained in both the USA and Australia, Heather is a tertiary-qualified teacher and active chamber musician and performer.  She is well-versed in a wide variety of repertoire.

Rehearsals: Mondays 6.30pm to 7.30pm

Classical Guitar Ensemble

This group is an exciting new opportunity for players 14 and up to experience the beauty of repertoire of 4 and 5 guitar arrangements. The pieces range form intermediate to advanced levels, and therefore the ability to read music from 3rd/4th grade minimum is essential. The music covers a range of styles from classical to contemporary music suited to the classical and flamenco type guitars. 

Rehearsals: Tuesdays 5.45pm to 6.45pm

Jazz Guitar Ensemble

The Jazz Guitar Ensemble plays easy to upper intermediate guitar repertoire providing ample opportunity to practice improvisation within a group environment. Applicants need a working knowledge of basic jazz chords, being able to read a chord chart and have a feel for swing, funk, and Latin type music. A working knowledge of major and minor scales as well as blues scales is required. Basic sight-reading skill is highly preferable.

Rehearsals:Thursdays from 7.00pm to 8pm

Steve Smillie Guitar Ensemble

This Guitar Ensemble comprises guitarists on acoustic, electric and bass guitars who enjoy exploring music from a range of genres. The ensemble provides students with the opportunity to further develop sight-reading, improvisation, ensemble and rhythm section skills. Reading needs to be at least Grade 2 or 3 up to fret 12, although sight reading skills will be developed in rehearsals. 

Rehearsals: Thursdays 7.00pm to 8.00pm
