Central Coast Conservatorium of Music students are teaming up with the country’s top operatic voices, plus the region’s leading musicians and choristers for a series of must-see live performances in February and March.
Over the course of three concerts in February and March our young musicians will be taking part in performances with Symphony Central Coast, Woy Woy Rotary’s Opera in the Arboretum and Central Coast Philharmonia Choir. The Con has been collaborating with, and supporting, these three organisations for many years and promoting the arts and music across the Central Coast.
On Sunday 26 February, a selection of Central Coast Youth Orchestra musicians will be taking to the stage in the refurbished soundshell at Memorial Park, The Entrance with Symphony Central Coast for the One Land Many Stories 2023 free outdoor concert.
The concert of great Australian music will feature the talents of Keyna Wilkins, Amanda Handel and Con musicians, plus songs from Elena Kats-Chernin and Peter Sculthorpe. It will also feature the world premiere of Symphony Central Coast Artistic Director and conductor Steven Stanke’s Rumbalara Rising, written to celebrate that mighty edifice overlooking Gosford. There will also be lots of other Australian songs, Indigenous dancers and a Welcome to Country by Gavi Duncan.
A highlight of the Coast’s arts calendar, Opera in the Arboretum will feature strings students from the orchestra alongside a world-class line-up of opera stars for an afternoon of opera favourites among the trees at Pearl Beach Arboretum.
The afternoon event on Saturday 11 March will feature UK baritone Rodney Earl Clark, mezzo soprano Louise Callinan, tenor John Longmuir and soprano Lorina Gore, plus special guest artist Alicia Poon on violin. They will perform arias and duets from Cosi fan Tutte and Don Giovanni (Mozart), Carmen (Bizet), Die tote Stadt (Korngold), Samson and Delilah (Saint-Saëns) along with favourites from the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
The event’s Artistic Director is Central Coast Conservatorium of Music vocal teacher, Michaele Archer and the concert is conducted by CCCM’s Patrick Brennan. It is a charity event hosted by the Rotary Club of Woy Woy.
Then on 25 March, Central Coast Philharmonia Choir will be coming together with the Central Coast Youth Orchestra and Children’s/Youth Choir for its performance of Dan Forrest’s Lux at St John the Baptist Church.
The rescheduled concert, which was originally planned for last November but had to be postponed due to COVID, will also feature performances from local acapella ensemble Ebb & Flow.
The Central Coast Conservatorium is a long-time supporter of the Philharmonia Choir, with members including teachers, current and former students and parents of Con students.
