What’s On
Central Coast Philharmonia Choir performance – 4 June 2022
At last! The Central Coast Philharmonia Choir, under the direction of Patrick Brennan, will present their concert ‘Hope and Consolation’ in the beautiful St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Woy Woy. This long-awaited concert combines the new and the old, the young and the experienced. Hope for the future, and consolation in times of trial.
The concert will commence with a selection of works by contemporary composer Elaine Hagenberg, who uses texts from hymns and poetry to bring hope and comfort. The choir will be accompanied on piano by Lilli Naulu and cellist Bayden Tam, with feature performances by violinist Kaito Deed. This part of the concert also includes a work by another contemporary composer, Daniel Elder, whose music explores love, nature, darkness and light.
There will be a feast of guest performance items, including the Coast’s premier a cappella ensemble, ‘Ebb and Flow’, directed by Anne Haslam; the recently formed Central Coast Children’s Choir, directed by Patrick Brennan; exciting soloist Bee Haslam; and introducing Mia Cross, recent winner of several vocal scholarships.
The concert will conclude with Fauré’s Requiem. This work reflects the composer’s view that death is ‘an aspiration towards happiness above, rather than a painful experience.’ (Classic FM). The choir will be accompanied by the Central Coast Chamber Orchestra, a brilliant ensemble of young musicians who recently played at Opera in the Arboretum, complemented by Lilli Naulu on organ and Noah Peres on piano. With the wonderful vocal talents of baritone Ian Fisher and young soprano Grace Mitchell, and conducted by Patrick Brennan, this will be a memorable concert.
