Piano players of all abilities are invited to head to Armidale in the April school holidays for Piano+ and the New England Conservatorium of Music (NECOM) inaugural Autumn Piano School.

The five-day immersive program is open to piano-lovers at all levels of expertise and takes place in Armidale from 17 – 21 April 2024. NECOM is a partner Conservatorium and, along with Central Coast Conservatorium of Music is part of the Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums (ANSWRC) –  the peak body for the 17 NSW Regional Conservatoriums.

Participants can choose from six course streams – Beginner, Junior, Intermediate, Advanced, Amateur and Pedagogue, tailored to your piano skill or teaching level and led by some of the country’s leading piano educators and performers.

Teachers and collaborating artists include Dr Bernadette Harvey, Konstantine Shamray, Rebecca Stewart, Clemens Leske, Samantha Coates, Dr James Cuskelly with more to be announced.

Further highlights include three public concerts held nightly from 18 – 20 April featuring Bernadette Harvey, Konstantin Shamray and other teacher-performers.

Beginner and Junior Streams

For the young pianist and budding maestro’s, the Beginner or Junior streams are the perfect place to learn new skills and and create shared experiences. The Beginner Stream welcomes primary-school aged students who have had less than three years of formal piano lessons. The Junior Stream is designed for children and young teenagers who are working at AMEB Preliminary to Grade 4 level (or equivalent).Morning tea for the students is included each day. Parents and/or guardians are welcome to sit in on any of their children’s classes or there will be a space on site at NECOM to wait.

Intermediate and Advanced Streams

For pianists seeking to refine their skills and excel in examinations, the Intermediate and Advanced Streams will challenge and inspire. If you’re thinking of studying music at tertiary level, you will have the opportunity to meet and learn from some of Australia’s leading tertiary piano teachers from the larger Conservatoriums. NOTE: The advanced stream is now full. Adult Amateur Stream

For adult pianists who play for pure joy. Enjoy high-quality instruction from supportive teachers in a relaxed and encouraging environment. Whether you’ve never pursued a professional musical career or are simply looking to reconnect with your love for the piano, daily workshops will cater to all levels of playing, and no question goes unanswered!
