Schools Scholarship Program 2022

Central Coast Conservatorium is pleased to announce our new Schools Scholarships for enthusiastic students currently in our Schools Program. This program offers two types of scholarship: Instrumental Scholarships and Ensemble Scholarships. Enthusiastic and talented students in years 5-7 in 2022 are invited to audition for these scholarships. Applicants are required to submit a video audition and complete the online application form below. Applications are now open until Friday 17 December 2021. Successful candidates will be notified on Tuesday 21 December 2021.

WHAT IS THE SCHOOLS SCHOLARSHIP?

This program involves engagement in a combination of 1 to 1 lessons, Musicianship classes and Conservatorium ensembles such as the Symphonic Wind Orchestra (High School), Primary Wind Ensemble (aka Super Band) and Central Coast Youth Orchestra or the Saturday String Program. This comprehensive approach to learning offers what we believe is the optimal instrumental music education available on the Central Coast, giving your child the very best chance to excel as a student musician whilst engaging socially with other like minded individuals.

These  Scholarships are set over three years starting in 2022 with Instrumental Scholars receiving $1,800 fee relief and Ensemble Scholars receiving $1,300 fee relief over the three year period.

Instrumental Scholars will be allocated a 1 to 1 Conservatorium teacher and must participate in all components of the scholarship program.

Ensemble Scholars must participate in ensemble and musicianship classes and are strongly encouraged to have 1 to 1 lessons at the Conservatorium to ensure they make excellent progress in the program.

There is a limited number of each Scholarship available and we therefore encourage all candidates to apply for both scholarships as well as enabling us to assess the best ensembles and teaching staff for your child.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAM

ONE TO ONE LESSONS

The core of the Conservatorium program is educating students through 1 to 1 lessons with our expert teachers. Most students commence 1 to 1 lessons for 30 minutes a week. These lessons allow students to gain a thorough knowledge of their instrument and accelerate their learning much faster than group tutorials that a majority of students receive in their schools. The Conservatorium has high quality and experienced teachers on every band and string instrument as well as guitar, piano and vocals.

MUSICIANSHIP

Musicianship classes are designed to examine the building blocks of music and improve students’ understanding of how music works. It also improves their music reading skills, ear training (listening skills) and even works on basic composition in music. Musicianship accelerates a student’s ability to progress on their instrument.

ENSEMBLES

The Conservatorium has a large number of different ensembles for students to participate in. Primary Wind Ensemble (aka ‘Superband’) and Symphonic Wind Orchestra (high school students) both take place on Wednesday afternoons, while the Saturday String Program is available for strings students. Advanced students may participate in the Central Coast Youth Orchestra on Tuesday afternoons.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE SCHOOLS SCHOLARSHIP?

Any student registered in the Conservatorium Schools Program in Years 4 to 6 in 2021 or Years  5-7 in 2022 is eligible to apply for the Schools Scholarship. Students must stay in the Schools Program for the duration of the Scholarship (unless in high school) but can elect to not participate in their band group tutorials if they are enrolled in 1 to 1 lessons instead. In this case their Schools Program fees would be reduced to a “Band Only” fee and they would participate in their school band rehearsals only (no group lessons).

As part of the Scholarship program it is expected that recipients will enrol in the following for 2022, 2023 and 2024:

  • 1 to 1 lessons on their instrument
  • Musicianship class at the appropriate level
  • At least one Conservatorium ensemble

This ensures the best music education outcomes for recipients.

Applications will not be accepted if fees are overdue (unless a Payment Plan Agreement is in place and instalments are up to date).
